L. reuteri in Helicobacter pylori infection
To study the effect of Lactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri) ATCC 55730 on the urea breath test (UBT) value, 24 patients infected with H. pylori but without symptoms were randomised into two groups. Group A ingested L. reuteri for 4 weeks and placebo for another 4 weeks. Group B underwent treatment in the reverse order. 19 of the 24 patients responded positively to the L. reuteri treatment. In group A the effect on UBT was maintaned during all the eight weeks.
