Impressive financial results for 2008
BioGaia increased net sales 36 per cent to SEK 145.2 million from SEK 106.6 million in 2007. The operating profit was SEK 25.8 million, an improvement of SEK 16.9 million compared to last year.

Reuteri decreased incidence of diarrhoea
 Patients given Lactobacillus reuteri had a significantly lower incidence of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea compared to patients receiving placebo. The incidence was 50% in the placebo group versus 8% in the probiotic group.
These results from a pilot study on 31 hospitalized adults performed by Lisa Cimperman and colleagues, Cleveland, USA were presented as a poster at the Clinical Nutrition Week in New Orleans in February.

BioGaia's probiotics soon on the Indian market
 Tablets India will produce and sell products based on BioGaia’s probiotics on the Indian market. The first product to be launched is a capsule registered as a pharmaceutical, which will be prescribed by physicians and distributed through pharmacies.
“We know that the Indian market is very large and fragmented and it is thus of great importance for BioGaia to enter an agreement with a well-established partner with long experience. We eagerly await the launch of the first product” says Peter Rothschild, President, BioGaia.

Invitation to symposium about probiotics
 BioGaia will host a Satellite Symposium “Probiotics in Paediatrics – Facts, Fiction and Future” that will be held on Friday June 5th in Budapest. The symposium is part of the Annual Meeting of ESPGHAN and will present the latest clinical data on L. reuteri Protectis and the latest opinion on probiotics in paediatrics. Bengt Björkstén, Professor of Paediatrics and Allergy Prevention, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden will chair the symposium.
