Year-end report: Impressive 2009

BioGaia increased net sales 40 per cent to SEK 203.5 million from SEK 145.2 million in 2008. The operating profit was SEK 47.7 million, an improvement of SEK 21.9 million. The sales of BioGaia's finished consumer products in Europe accounted for most of the sales increase compared to last year. Of total finished consumer products, 31% were sold under the BioGaia brand compared to 21% last year.
"Both the rapid growth in sales and profit and the enthusiastic reception our products have received in all of the new countries where they have been launched is very satisfying," says Peter Rothschild, President, BioGaia.

Reuteri now sold in Russia

The launch of chewable tablets and drops withLactobacillus reuteri in Russia is well on its way. The sales force both in Moscow and St. Petersburg, are visiting doctors, clinics and pharmacies and also attending medical conferences and exhibitions. The advertising in magazines focusing on babies, children and young mothers is planned to start in March and is promoting both the tablets and the drops.
The products are sold by the Finnish company Verman under the brand name Relalife.

Valued dealership with Nippon Access in Japan
BioGaia has signed an exclusive dealership agreement with Japan's largest food and supplement wholesaler Nippon Access, a subsidiary of Japan's 5th largest trading company, Itochu Corporation.
"With the agreement we will be able to work through all possible distribution channels with almost all our products and reach consumers in a multitude of ways," says Peter Rothschild, President, BioGaia.

Successful symposium in Latin America 

At LASPGHAN, Latin American Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, BioGaia hosted a symposium in Puerto Varas, Chile together with its regional partnersRecalcine and Ferring Latin America.
Dr Flavia Indrio, University of Bari Policlinico, presented "Probióticos en Pediatria" including her findings on the gut motility and regurgitation studies on L. reuteri. The attendants showed a lot of interest both at the symposium and at the BioGaia booth.
