Discovery of Reuterin

In 1985, Professor Sven Lindgren of the Swedish University of Agricultural Science in Uppsala, Sweden, and Professor Walter Dobrogosz of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, made a discovery regarding the antimicrobial properties of Lactobacillus reuteri.

They showed the ability of the bacterium to produce Reuterin, a substance with broad-spectrum activity against common intestinal pathogens.
